A New Technique for Road Extraction using Fuzzy Rough Set and GNP-FDM

Due to unconstrained illumination conditions, noise, atmospheric pressure and temperature fluctuations; quality of image is affected. Extraction of roads from digital aerial/satellite imagery is not only scientifically challenging but also of major importance for data acquisition and update of geographic information system (GIS), databases or site models and thus can be a big help in car navigation systems or any emergency (rescue) system that needs instant maps. In this paper we explain a new robust approach to extract road from high resolution satellite imagery based on GNP-FDM and fuzzy rough set theory.
